I've come to realize that a vacation to Exuma is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book...but where every decision leads you to a great outcome. I've written quite a bit about the beach and infinity pool at The Salt House and a some about checking out to see the rest of the main islands of Great and Little Exuma. But unlike many other tropical destinations, the opportunity to get out on the water and see the incredible shades of blue shift as you cruise over varying depths, finding our own deserted island beach, or soaking up the vibes of the island beach bars is what sets Exuma apart. It's the kind of experience that is likely to change your thoughts on what a vacation should be.
Our kids were pretty young when we started coming to Exuma (the youngest was just 6 months), so we had waited on taking a day trip up the Exuma Cays to see the famous Swimming Pigs of Big Major's Cay. Finally, we did it last summer...and it was AMAZING! In one day, we were swimming in the Thunderball Gorotto that was like a real life aquarium, playing with the Swimming Pigs, hanging out at Compass Cay Marina and swimming with the sharks, lunch at Staniel Cay Yacht Club, having fun with the Bahamian iguanas on Allan Cay, and all the while cruising through some of the most incredible waters in the world. Check out this video of our highlights. But rest assured, it's nothing like experiencing it in person.
