Driving directions from the Airport to The Salt House
In Exuma, you drive on the LEFT side of the road, so take extra care as you get used to the way you have to look left and right. The drive is about 40 minutes, but it goes pretty quick as there is a lot to see along the way.  Google Maps and Apple Maps work great for getting around the island.  You can find the straightforward directions to the house by entering The Salt House Exuma (as for some reason, The Salt House sends you to the middle of the island). It won't be long for you to get that first glimpse of the ocean as you will see it at the top of the hill leaving the airport.

After exiting the airport, you'll come to a traffic circle at the bottom of the hill.  Loop around to head to the right (East) and follow the road for about 20 minutes into George Town. As you approach George Town, the road branches to the right and you'll head up a hill that takes you around the small Lake Victoria which is in the center of the town. At the next fork in the road, turn right to head to Little Exuma. From the airport, it's a little less than 20 minutes to George Town and about another 20 minutes to The Salt House. The drive is quite scenic in many parts as it winds along the oceanfront or between palm-lined sections (definitely picture worthy).

The Ferry Bridge connects Little Exuma to Great Exuma.  It is a one lane bridge (one lane total), so approach it slowly to check if there is another car already on the bridge heading your way. Likely there won't be, but take it slow and enjoy the views in all directions of the tidal waters, surrounding cays, and possibly locals fishing off the bridge. The Salt House is about 4 minutes past the bridge on the lefthand side of the road, just past the large Sandy Blue estate.

Take note of these along your way:
  • Grocery Stores: George Town has a couple of grocery stores and other shops to get provisions.  Exuma Markets is the largest grocery store and is in George Town's harborfront area.  Shop-Rite is on the inland side of Lake Victoria. And Smitty's is in the Hooper's Bay area west of George Town.
  • Butcher: Prime Island Meats is located between the airport and George Town and has freshly imported meats (steak, chicken, pork, lamb, sausages) and seafood, as well as other grocery items like fruits and vegetables. They offer call ahead ordering so that you can pick up your order on the way to The Salt House. 242-336-3627.  They are closed on Sundays.
  • Liquor/Wine/Beer stores: There are many liquor stores in and around George Town and a few small stores between George Town and Little Exuma (closed on Sundays).
  • Convenience stores: Little Exuma only has a few small convenience stores that carry basic necessities and limited stock, but you'll do your grocery shopping in town.  A few more are located in Rolle Town on the main road, which is 10 minutes from the house on the way to George Town
  • Concierge Grocery Stocking: It is nice to arrive at The Salt House and have it freshly stocked with groceries and beverages. We offer this option through our management company, The Good Life Bahamas. In preparation for your stay, we will send you a checklist of items to fill out and they will do the shopping for you.
